What to do with an Environmental Policy

Jun 6, 2015 | News

My co-director and I talk weekly about how we can lessen our impact on the environment and create the most sustainable construction company we can. Over time we have put in place systems and procedures that ensure we do this but we have come to the realization we need it in writing.

We had a discussion a few weeks ago and came to the conclusion that we really need to get an environmental policy written, so we can really be known to do all we can do to preserve our environment and ensure the directors of the company aren’t the only one’s working to improve our level of sustainability.

So we now have a great new environmental policy written by Open Space consulting and now the work begins, we now have the guidelines that we must conform to and ensure everybody in the company conforms too. It’s not something we have written, place it on the top shelf and tell everyone we have an environmental policy and never look at it again. It’s time to implement and constantly review!

The percentage of companies that have an environmental policy is very, very low. But to have one and do nothing with it gives a company the complacency that they are doing something to positively improve their environmental impact, which is often purely misleading and false.

We look forward to constantly improving upon our policy to create a highly conscious community in and around Sustainable Homes Melbourne
